The Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity has a long, rich history at the University of Maryland. For nearly 60 years it has enriched the undergraduate experience, creating and enriching vistysion, exemplary character, and ethical leadership among University of Maryland students and the larger campus.

On March 14, 1950, the Beta Omicron chapter of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity was founded on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park. Throughout the 50s to the early 70s, Beta Omicron occupied a house on Dickenson Avenue in College Park. The house was small and held about 10 brothers. In the late 70s, after a few years' absence from the Maryland Campus, Phi Tau was recolonized and started again by Greg Hollen, who later became National President. The late 70's Phi Taus lived in a small house on Hopkins Ave. in College Park, housing 7 brothers, while the other 25 lived in dormitories. The chapter briefly closed again in the late '80s, but was recolonized and rechartered in 1993.

In 1995, thanks to the help of Honorary Beta Omicron founder C. Ricardo Hamilton (Beta Omicron '61), Phi Kappa Tau moved into a new home at #5 Fraternity Row. To this day, Beta Omicron resides on Fraternity Row, improving the entire Greek Community and forming the finest students at Maryland into tomorrow's leaders.
